THANK YOU to our 2014 Event Sponsors and Donors
The University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation Auxiliary Board was founded in 1951 by North Shore resident, Stephanie Howell. She and her friends raised $3000 in their first year. The Board was incorporated in 1959 as an official auxiliary of the UCCRF. Since its inception, the Foundation's Auxiliary Board has raised over $3 million in unrestricted funds for cancer research. In 2006, the Board was named as a recipient of the University's coveted Harpers Society Award for its fundraising efforts.
Today's Board is composed of 26 women who actively work towards raising funds for the three doctors selected to be underwritten. Each doctor receives funds for three years. There are also 28 sustaining and honorary members of the Auxiliary.
Since 2012, the UCCRFAB has been supporting the cancer research efforts of Drs. Jill de Jong, Peter O’Donnell, and Michael Spiotto. Dr. de Jong is focused on the treatment of children with a variety of cancer and blood diseases. In addition, she focuses on hematopoietic stem cells and understanding the genes that cause leukemia. Dr. O’Donnell is dedicated to working to treat patients with genitourinary cancers. He is specifically dedicated to using the patient’s genetic profile for chemotherapy choices, as well as other therapeutic treatments. Dr. Spiotto’s research emphasis in the treatment of head and neck cancers is identifying the genes involved in the development of these cancers. He continues to develop systems to screen for the compound that will target these genes.
The UCCRFAB is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization.
